After nearly 140 days of non-stop travelling, exploring, and a little less studying than was probably necessary, I’ve finally returned to the East Coast (of the US, that is)!
My last couple of weeks in Sydney were filled with sad goodbyes and worried promises to meet with new friends again in the future, but that didn’t mean that there wasn’t time for a little fun.
One Saturday night, we were finally (FINALLY!) able to get almost all of the Leonard Ave roommates together to go to a National Rugby League (NRL) match at the Sydney Cricket Grounds. Most of us had very little idea of what was going on, but that didn’t take away from the fun.
Another weekend night brought me to the Sydney Comedy Festival for a showcase of local and international comedians at The Comedy Store in The Entertainment Quarter. The jokes about Americans were a little excessive, but I don’t blame them for taking the low-hanging fruit :).
A birthday celebration for my new friend Max brought Emily, Soph, and I out one last time to the Coogee Pavilion, a busy food and entertainment hub that I’ll be sure to re-visit the next time I make it to Sydney.
Finally, a last night of Heads Up at the house properly concluded a journey of a lifetime with the people that made my time in Australia so special.
The Long-Awaited Return
Although I was anxious going into my exams, I was even more worried about the 30 hours of travelling that were soon to follow. Fortunately, I had luck on my side.
Having left ample space in my duffel for souvenirs on my trip to Sydney, I had no problems packing my belongings and even had extra space for snacks for the trip.
The flights themselves went by in a blur. Periodic napping, eating, and movie watching allowed the time to pass unbelievably quickly, so fast that I arrived in Boston the same day that I had left! 😉
After less than a week at home, I’m already back to classes for RPI’s Summer Arch Program. Although I’m a bit more tan and campus is much emptier than before, it feels like I had never left. Henry, my cat, is still the king of my house, RPI is just as hilly as I remember it, and, most importantly, Troy’s Farmer’s Market is still my favorite thing to visit on the weekends.
Thanks for following my journey Down Under! If you have any interest in trying Vegemite, despite all of my warnings, let me know.
